When we spend time in nature, our blood pressure slows down, the tension in our body releases, and our senses are overwhelmed with the sounds, textures, and sights. We are fully functioning in our innate design. Science has proven over and over again that people who spend more time in nature and green spaces have improved working memory, cognitive flexibility, and greater attention. American Psychology Association.

Drawing is proven to aid in memory

According to a study done at Waterloo University, a group of scientists studied participants’ ability to retain information through reading, writing, listening to lectures.

Combine that with learning a new skill and your neurotransmitters go crazy, strengthening your brain muscles, visualizing and drawing. The study results showed that the brain works best when an individual is drawing something they are learning. The image doesn’t have to look identical. The researchers also suggest that drawing results in better recall because of how the information is encoded in memory. When a student draws a concept, they “must elaborate on its meaning and semantic features, engage in the actual hand movements needed for drawing (motor action), and visually inspect [the] created picture (pictorial processing).” Edutopia: George Lucas Educational Foundation

So not only do Bonnie’s classes help with stress management, over all body health, but we enhance our memory function as well. It’s a win for everyone taking classes with me.
